The Teleological Proof for God's Existence

Wherever there is order, there is plan. Our reason tells us that wherever there is order and plan, an intelligent being has been or is at work. We only have to look around us to see that the universe is full of natural works of art which in beauty, variety and perfection far surpass the highest achievements of human craftsmanship. From these facts we can draw only one logical conclusion " the universe is the work of a Supreme Intelligence, a Master-Artist, whom we call God.

With all this order and design there has to have been an Orderer, a Designer who willed to order the universe as it is today. It is, practically speaking, mathematically impossible for the order in the universe to have randomly assembled itself by blind chance. The odds are clearly stacked against the atheist who believes in a random creation.

If the forces binding atoms were 5% weaker than they are, hydrogen would be the only stable element in the universe, and life wouldn’t exist. Even the most minor tinkering with the value of the fundamental forces of physics such as gravity and electro-magnetism would have resulted in a universe incapable of supporting life. Such fine-tuning does not happen by chance. The odds against it all happening by chance are so astronomically high that they clearly indicate that Someone knew exactly what He was doing. All the seemingly unrelated constants in physics have one strange thing in common " these are precisely the values you need if you want to have a universe capable of producing life. The Earth’s distance from the sun is so finely balanced and precisely located that it could not sustain life on Earth with even a minor alteration. Such specific fine-tuning is no accident because fine-tuning never happens by accident. God must be behind it.

- What else, but creation by God, can explain the instinct which impels migratory birds to travel huge distances, back and forward, around Earth each year to the same spot?

- Janus and Epimetheus (satellites of Saturn only 30 mi. apart) swap places every 4 years instead of colliding. The only logical explanation for such precise natural engineering is that they were programmed to behave this way by God.

- Only creation by God, the Intelligent Designer, can explain why a wound or a damaged organ can repair itself, and only to the boundaries of the damaged tissue.

- If the universe had a beginning in a supposed Big Bang before which all the matter in the Universe was compressed into a very small concentration, why did it explode and not collapse through its immense gravity? Indeed, what are the forces that could make it explode? Only creation by God can explain where matter came from, including the matter which supposedly gave rise to the Big Bang.

- Pure random chance cannot account for the amazing complexity of the world of atoms or the world of planets. The tiny nuclei of protons and neutrons surrounded by electron shells and the enormous solar systems all adhering to specific laws of motion cannot have been created, or sustained in existence, other than by God’s design.

- The consistent patterns of the human body-clock that signal puberty, menstruation, digestion, ovulation and many other bodily functions could not be the work of chance

IT REQUIRES A FAR GREATER ACT OF FAITH TO BELIEVE THAT THE UNIVERSE AND EVERYTHING IN IT HAS COME ABOUT BY ACCIDENT THAN TO BELIEVE IT IS THE WORK OF AN OMNIPOTENT CREATOR (ie God).
