CATHOLICISM ISLAM

Belief in one God of 3 Divine Persons, ie the Holy Trinity. Mk12:29

R

F

Muslims profess belief in one God but deny the Trinity.

Jesus is God, proven by miracles, fulfilled prophecy and a perfect life. "You cannot come to the Father except through me." ("me" = Jesus)

It is argued that Muhammed: did not work miracles even when challenged to do so Koran 3:181-84; did not fulfil prophecy; and did not live a perfect life - he ordered the deaths of poets who lampooned him.

Jesus is God, Mk 14:62. Contemporary non-Christian sources eg Tacitus & Josephus record Christ's crucifixion. His Resurrection is a fact of history, Matt 27:63; 28:13.

O

Islam denies Jesus' divinity, crucifixion & resurrection

In spite of the high regard Catholicism has for Muslims (Nostra aetate 3), it is a fact that early Islam spread by violence; Christianity spread amidst persecution (Matt 5: 38-39).

T

In Islam the concept of 'Jihad' is interpreted as a personal struggle with sin but it can also be regarded as a Holy War against non-Muslims. See Koran 8:12; 9:5; 9:29; 47:4.

The fact that Muslims believe Jesus and Mary were born sinless is a most telling indication that the Koran's teaching about Adam & Eve and sin has been taken from Christian teaching II

"Allah is God and Mohammed is his prophet." Islam holds the Koran, the holy book of Islam, to be without error. Muslims deny that Original Sin affects the human race

'For what are we comparing? A Galilean peasant accompanied by a few fishermen (Jesus); compared to a conqueror at the head of his army (Mohammed)'. P.204 AI

M

In his Summa Contra Gentiles (Bk. 1 6[4]) St Thomas Aquinas questioned the Muslim concept of Heaven and its promise of carnal pleasures for those who attain Heaven.

The prophecy regarding the coming of the Holy Spirit in Joel 2: 28 was fulfilled according to the words of Christ â€" in Jerusalem, upon the Apostles at Pentecost, 9 days after His ascension

R

O

Islam interprets John 14: 16 by holding that 'another Advocate' is Mohammed; not the Holy Spirit. But Acts 2: 1-4 clearly describes the coming of the Holy Spirit; not of Mohammed in Arabia, on the tribe of Fihr, 600 years later

Virgin Mary praised above all saints as the mother of God.

U

R

The Virgin Mary is mentioned in the Koran, but not as mother of God.

Polygamy prohibited. Catholicism is the only major religion that practices strict monogamy.

I

A

A man may marry up to 4 wives. P.363 LR. Koran 4:3. Mohammed had many more than 4 wives at one time.

Today, in the 3rd Millennium, Christianity is the most persecuted religion; much of this persecution occurs in Muslim countries.

T

L

Islamic Law requires that 2 women must bear witness in civil contracts as opposed to one man. P.172 AI.

Divorce prohibited. Mat 19:3. Catholicism is the only major religion that upholds the absolute indissolubility of a sacramental consummated marriage.

S

S

Divorce allowed. P.368 LR. The Koran explicitly affords men the right to divorce their wives but does not accord the same right to women (Koran 2:228).

'Whoever knows the Old and New Testaments, and then reads the Koran, clearly sees the process by which it completely reduces Divine Revelation.' 'In countries where fundamentalist movements come to power… the situation of Christians is sometimes terribly disturbing… All the same, the Church remains always open to dialogue and co-operation.' (Pope John Paul II, Crossing the Threshold of Hope, p. 92, 94)

THESE BELIEF SYSTEMS ARE CONTRADICTORY.

BOTH CANNOT BE TRUE.
