God Created Everything
HOW DO WE KNOW FOR SURE THAT EVERYTHING THAT EXISTS HAS BEEN CREATED BY GOD? IT MIGHT HAVE BEEN CREATED BY A FINITE BEING.
God made everything from nothing. But the distance between nothing and actual existence is infinite. So, only an infinite Being (Whom we call God) can make something from nothing. Suppose the creator of the universe is finite. What follows? A conclusion fatal to anyone holding that nothing exists except what we perceive by our senses â€" the conclusion that outside the world and distinct from it, there exists some Being of vast intellect and power on whom we are utterly dependent; no self-respecting atheist wants to admit that!
HOW DO WE KNOW FOR SURE THAT GOD CREATED EVERYTHING FROM NOTHING?
Everything that exists has to have received existence from a pre-existent being who is existence itself (ie God); a being who always has been, a being who is uncreated; a being who was never caused by any preceding thing. Such a being cannot consist of separate parts because such a union of parts would require a cause. But, as we have established, God is a pre-existent Being who has never been caused by anything. God cannot be matter, because all matter is made up of parts, but, as we have established, God cannot consist of separate parts. So, logic has drawn us to the conclusion that God the infinite and hence supreme Spirit Being must necessarily have created everything from nothing. We also have the witness of Divine Revelation, ie God has actually revealed to us that He created everything from nothing through the constant teaching of the one Church He founded on Earth (eg Dei Filius of Vatican I) and from the Bible that Church produced (eg 2 Maccabees 7: 28).
