Jesus Founded Catholicism

Jesus Christ is the Head of the Catholic Church which is His Body on Earth. Whatever the Church teaches in matters of faith or morals, Jesus is actually teaching. Whenever the Pope affirms a constant teaching of the Church or proclaims an extraordinary infallible teaching, Jesus is actually teaching. Jesus founded the infallible Catholic Church to speak and act in His name until the end of the world. This Church would be One in faith (one God, one Jesus, one Catholic Faith), One in worship (the same 7 Sacraments and the same basic liturgy, aimed at Holiness for all) and One in government (a constant succession of popes from Apostolic times and an obedient flock of faithful to be shepherded by them). The Catholic Church alone possesses the identifying marks of Christ's Church: One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic. Therefore, the Catholic Church alone is the One True Church founded by Christ, and is the One and Only Infallible Teacher of Christ's Revelation. (See also Dominus Iesus, issued by the Vatican in 2000)

Yes, but there is more help available for salvation if one is a Catholic. To say otherwise would be to deny the need of the one true Catholic religion. One religion is not as good as another, since no two religions agree on all points of doctrine. Therefore, anyone who is without the fullness of the means of salvation as offered by Catholicism is, in some way, disadvantaged. This also means that Catholics, being in possession of the fullness of the means of salvation, will be more harshly judged since more is expected of them. The Catholic Church does not know of any means other than Baptism that assures entry into Heaven. This is why the Church sees to it that all who can be baptised are. However, we are bound by the Sacraments, God is not. Those who, through no fault of their own, do not know the Gospel of Christ or His Church, but who nevertheless seek God with a sincere heart … - those too may achieve eternal salvation. (CCC 1257, 847).

Then why did Christ found the Catholic Church and entrust it with making converts of all nations (Mt 28:19)? The Church is not some kind of intellectual society, dedicated to disseminating information. It does aim to enlighten people, but primarily with a view to helping them attain Heaven. Since non-Catholics lack the full and authentic teaching of Jesus Christ, as enunciated by the Catholic Church, they necessarily lack all the helps that are available to Catholics. Catholicism, because it alone teaches the fullnessof Christ's teachings and offers the world the totality of the means of salvation, it alone gives greater helps to salvation and assurance of it. Hence, those who know that the Catholic Church is necessary for salvation but refuse to enter it cannot be saved. (Lumen Gentium of Vatican II, 14; Watt, D, Heresies I Have Known, 2003)

Jesus founded Catholicism on the first pope: Peter (Matt 16:18). There exists abundant evidence proving that the Early Christian Church was Catholic in faith, worship and government (see the pages entitled: THE EARLY CHURCH WAS CATHOLIC). The date of foundation of every non-Catholic Christian group can be given, and in no case is it 30 AD, and their founder is not Jesus. Only the Catholic Church goes back in every respect to her foundation by Christ Himself. Christ, who is God, founded a Church. He promised it would last to the end of time. Therefore, His Church exists in the world at the present day. Christ imprinted certain marks on His Church so that people could always identify it. No church, therefore, can be His Church, unless it possesses ALL those marks. The Catholic Church alone possesses them. Only the Catholic Church is one, holy, catholic and apostolic. (See also Nicene Creed, 325 AD.)
